I played backing chicken and I won! Yippee!!
This quilt is huge and it’s heavy. I’m definitely going to sew the binding on by machine using glue basting. I’ve been sewing on my featherweight in a featherweight table but it is the size of a card table…..just not enough real estate to manage this size of quilt. So I got to thinking. We have a large desk that isn’t used much since I’m no longer working. Also we both use iPads and no longer have a desktop computer…so I asked about moving our desk into the quilt studio.
I’m not certain if I’ll rearrange things or not but this will work for now! It will be so much better for sewing on borders and bindings!

Whew, I am glad you won at backing chicken! I get frustrated when I only have a little bit left to quilt and a bobbin runs out.

ReplyDeleteWoo HOO for having just enough backing fabric! And good idea to add more support next to the Featherweight. I have a folding table (skinny one) that I can move between the sewing machine and Max depending on where I need extra space for a quilt to spread out and not sag. It isn't sturdy enough to sew on but it works great for that little extra surface space.

ReplyDeleteGood idea to use the desk to work on larger quilts. Any time you can get the weight of the quilt to rest on something vs. hanging to the floor helps the sewing processes go smoother.
ReplyDeleteYay! So glad you had enough backing! It's a lovely quilt. And I love to shop the house for something I need. Sounds like the desk is going to work for a while. I haven't had my featherweight out in a long time. Maybe this fall I'll get back to some sewing and set it up somewhere. I do love it.
