Four Corners

I have sewn all four corners on Scrap Confetti and only have about 20” left to sew down. I should get that done today.

That will be two quilts finished on this trip ๐Ÿ˜

A Collaboration Quilt

When we are at our cabin, we get to see my dad and our friends, Lisa & Greg. Lisa quilts and we got to talking about making a kid sized quilt together. Even though I was warned not to open the 60 degree ruler (see comment from Kathy on this post ๐Ÿ˜†) , I did!

We each made blocks……and now I have ideas for using this ruler, including using my stash of thrifted shirts……SQUIRREL๐Ÿฟ️!! Back to the real world, on Saturday Lisa & I sewed the blocks up and made this fun top.

Then on Sunday, Lisa quilted it with wavy line quilting, a first for her. I told her just gently move up and down like you are bobbing in the waves of the ocean. She did a great job and now has another free motion pattern to add to her repertoire.

We were lucky to find great backing and binding fabric in my mom’s stash. Lisa will bind it and find the perfect home for the quilt. Thanks for a fun project, Lisa.

Fun times! Cherie

Friday Finish - Cheddar & Dill!

Finally, a fully finished project for Finished (or not) Friday! The Cheddar & Dill quilt saga (here (#12),  here (last paragraph) and here (Julie’s post)) is over because I put in the last stitches in the binding. Woo hoo!!!  I couldn’t love this quilt more! Again, thank you, Julie!

I feel like I need to take C&D in the wild and get some beauty shots. Our cabin is on the edge of the sequoia national forest so there’s always beautiful pictures to be had.

Happy finishing, Cherie

Next!

Next project up is the binding for Scrap Confetti.

Our roadside attraction for today is in Yermo, CA…..a water tank dressed up like an ice cream sundae.

That’s the end of our roadside attractions until we start our trip home. Hope you’ve enjoyed them ๐Ÿค“

Car Sewing

I’ve been stitching the miles away ๐Ÿ˜€. I finished all four corners on the C&D binding with only about 36 inches left to sew. I should finish tomorrow!

I finished that last hexie flower & here’s where it stands. I’ll appliquรฉ it to background fabric and see where it goes from there.

I pulled out another project I brought along…..a project started by my friend Darlene. I’m calling it the oval project for now and Darlene had left five ovals prepped.

This is the last unfinished project I had from Darlene. Two were quilts in two pieces that were so wonderfully finished by Patty, The Quilt Lady in her posts here & here. The other project, shown here, has found a home with a quilter who has the skills to make the quilt. The oval project is one I can handle, in fact, I’ve appliquรฉd two ovals already ☺️.

Our roadside attraction for the day is in Palisade, CO. It’s in someone’s yard but is easily visible from the side of the road.

If you click the photo and zoom in on the fish’s mouth, you’ll see the humor.

Quilting on the Road

I don’t think I showed the Cheddar & Dill octopus for sewing on the binding.

In preparation for “in the car” quilting, I saved hand sewing the C&D binding for our trip. I’ve turned two corners so far ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ.

To mix it up a bit, I brought along a project that’s been in timeout for an extremely long time. I only have a few green hexies left so I will sew one more flower to finish the current row.

I had no idea I was so close to being done. Good thing there are more projects in my quilting bag ๐Ÿ˜‰. When I get home I’ll pick a fabric to appliquรฉ the hexie top to and then figure out what I’ll do for quilting.

Happy trails, Cherie

It’s Friday……..

……and that means it’s time for the Finished (or not) Friday link up over at Alicia’s blog and I have a finish ๐Ÿ˜. I finished quilting the kid cowboy quilt, which DH says I should name “Yippee-ki-yay”.

I finished loading scrappy mountains, so that counts too, right? ๐Ÿ˜„

And I tucked Sophie under her covers because we’re off on another trip.

I have some quilt-y things to take along so I’ll have something to post about keep busy and not backseat drive ๐Ÿ˜†.

A Wonderful Gift

This week I received the most wonderful gift in the mail. I knew it was coming. It was from MaryAnn at Joyful Puttering: Collecting * Creating * Connecting who blogs about joy. You should add her blog to your daily routine as her joyful posts are good for one’s mental health. MaryAnn makes journals and in this post she offered to make Joy Journals. I took her up on her offer and sent her some things I’ve been keeping in my quilt studio (nothing too precious as cautioned by MaryAnn).

What I received in the mail:

I can tell MaryAnn & I are kindred spirits because she used a carrot bag to cover my Joy Journal. And of course I’ve saved the bag to reuse ♻️๐Ÿ˜ƒ

The journal, as described by MaryAnn in her post here. What she sent back is too precious for words……which why I asked to connect with her. The connection is just as joyful as the journal.

Below are the pages with a few comments.

The flowers above and pencil drawing below were done by my father. I have lots of his drawings so it wasn’t too precious to mail…..but it is very precious now.

This is a postcard MaryAnn’s Grandmother received ๐Ÿคฏ

And the back of the postcard…..way cool!

Check out the stamps Maryann received to use in her journals!

On the last page….words embroidered on the inside placket of a fancy, high end shirt I thrifted……I’ve saved this & the shirt tags for years just because they spoke to me….and now I know why. Thank you, MaryAnn for this most wonderful of treasures.

Find your joy! Cherie

A Quilting First for Me

For the first time I used a different color of thread in the bobbin of my longarm, Sophie, but with a light top and black backing, it was time to try it. I used black and white…..so pretty high contrast ๐Ÿ˜‚

Scrap Confetti has been loaded on Sophie for quite a while, so it was high time to get it quilted. I’m very happy with the results.

Not only did the quilting go well, I won at bobbin chicken!

Only about 18” left after the last pass! Now to pick out binding fabric….light or dark, hmmmmm…….

Cheers! Cherie

Batting & Backings

Today I focused on getting backings and batting cut for the quilt tops I’ve recently finished. I already had the backing for Starfire so I cut batting and it’s ready to quilt.

I purchased a wide bandanna print for the cowboy kids top and all I needed to do was cut off some of the width, well, length really. I cut the batting and it’s ready to go.

For the scrappy mountain top, I needed to piece the backing to get the width I needed. I knew I had enough fabric to match the large print and I’m quite pleased with the job I did! I had not cut off the extra on the side yet in this picture……the fronds will run vertically.

I’d read several tutorials & ended up using glue. I ironed over a half inch seam on the first piece, then laid it right side up on my second piece. Then I moved the top fabric around until the pattern aligned. Using Elmer’s washable school glue in a small tip applicator, I put about a 4” line of glue on the folded over seam and carefully laid it down on the second fabric, aligning the pattern. I used a dry iron to dry the glue and continued like that for the rest of the seam. Then I opened it up and sewed down the ironed seam line. Worked like a charm ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

And know now all three are ready for their turn on Sophie.

Friday!

On the friendship star (FS) project, I now have 26 dark blocks finished (they won’t all fit on the design wall๐Ÿ˜) and I’m linking up with Finished (or not) Friday.

With the 29 light blocks, I have 55 of the 81 FS blocks sewn so I’m over halfway finished, yay! There’s another five blocks in progress (see below) but then I’ll have to cut some more.

Here’s my sewing machine still life. There’s only four different blocks on the table, ๐Ÿ˜‚. The pile of cutoff triangles, FS’s, Celtic Solstice and…..

….some blocks I’ve cut for Cynthia’s block drive for Many Hands and Many Hearts, mini squares in squares.

Happy Friday! Cherie

March BOM Finished

I finished the March BOM waaaay before the end of the month ๐Ÿ˜. I am pleased with the Christmas colors (not Christmas fabrics per se) I chose….and all the fabrics are from stash. Can’t beat that.

Here’s the blocks I have so far.

I’ve been leader/ender-ing some gifted triangles into HST’s. I’m ironing them along with some gifted bonus HST’s (thanks Jan ๐Ÿ˜Š) and, serendipitously, they all trim to 2” HST’s. And……I have a plan for them!!! I’ll get to them eventually ๐Ÿ˜†

RSC Four Patch Fun

I made some of Bonnie Hunter’s Four Patch Fun blocks in red. These are really fun blocks to sew and they are easy to kit up. A couple of finished crumb blocks that I’m making for the RSC are on the wall as well. Joining SoScrappy for the RSC link up.

I have a pile red crumb blocks coming along ๐Ÿ˜€.

Just noticing it might be easier on the eyes if I didn’t take the picture on my green mat, lol!

Cheers, Cherie
