Graduation Quilt is Finally Finished

I worked on the binding on our day trip Friday…….

…….where we ended our day watching The Michael Weber Show in Lakewood, OH and I got to visit with The Quilt Lady, who is Michael’s Aunt Patty and my friend.

Patty and I exchanged bags and I totally got the best end of the exchange……

See how well my scissors fit in the scissors pouch? I have a thing for pears 😆 She also gave me one of her thread beds and muffins 😋.

On Saturday I finished the graduation quilt.

And prepared it for gifting today, yay!

Finishing!

I finished quilting and machine sewing the binding to the front of the quilt as well as finishing hand sewing one corner and 1 1/2 sides. We are taking off on a day trip soon so I expect I’ll be close to finishing by the time we return. Yay!!

Binding & More

We had a wonderful time on our weekend away. The trip was planned specifically to visit the Corning Museum of Glass which didn’t disappoint. The museum is a mixture of history, chemistry, uses and art. As a birthday gift, my DH had purchased glass making sessions for us and it was a fabulous experience.

My piece is the one on the left 😄. The Rockwell Museum (not that Rockwell) is close to the Corning museum and was well worth the visit. There is a lovely path through a park that you can walk to get to the Rockwell. It’s an easy walk between the two museums and only takes about 10-15 minutes.

We stayed at Seneca lake and the region is beautiful with many waterfalls and wineries. I was able to finish all four corners of the binding during our drive and finished Fall Mountains completely on Monday.

Because I used glue to hold the pieces of backing when pattern matching and because I wanted to see how my quilting would turn out, I washed it. I’m very happy with the quilting mostly because I didn’t quilt it densely and was hoping it would look good.

And, most importantly, I started right in on quilting the graduation quilt!

Sophie and I worked together well and the quilting is now complete. I’ll trim the quilt and sew the binding on today!

Binding Time!

I got right to sewing the binding to the front of the scrappy mountain quilt and am hand sewing it down on our trip to the Finger Lakes region in NY. I’ve named Fall Mountains.

I received a package delivery notice so the thread I ordered for the graduation quilt will be waiting for me when we return. I’ll work on getting it quilted on Monday/Tuesday. I already have the binding and label prepped so it will be finished in time for gifting a week from Sunday 😅😅.

A Bit of a Clean Up

I felt the need to clean up the cutting table & surrounding surfaces. I have been leader/ender-ing scrap/crumb blocks as well as HST’s and still have a huge pile to trim.

The trimmed blocks are either put in their respective scrap drawers for pinning the next round or added to my growing piles of finished 6 1/2” blocks (note to self….decide on the next project from them!).

The blocks, L to R, multi colored, neutrals, single color and single color with a neutral center. I pin, sew, iron & trim these when I want to just go with the flow……good for my peace of mind.

The HST phase started with cut off triangles from two friends (thanks Lisa & Jan!) and now I’m enjoying sewing from the boxes of triangles I’ve saved for years.

The 4 1/2” pink HST’s are for the king sized friendship star quilt I’m making and that is the last of them 😁.

The 2 1/2” HST’s are growing (almost all of the above are from the recently gifted triangles) and I’m hoping to have enough to keep me busy at retreat in July…..assuming I have settled on a design for them 🤔.

As for the graduation quilt…….

I wanted to get it quilted so I could hand sew the binding on our getaway trip this weekend. I have some variegated turquoise thread I thought would work for it, however, I wasn’t happy with how light parts of the thread looked on the black fabric 🙁. New thread is to arrive Monday……
