Now to Sew It Together & a BAP

I got all the blocks sewn for Quadrangle. The pattern calls for a 6 x 6 block setting but I prefer rectangle quilts so am going with 5 x 7.  I’ll put the extra block in the pieced backing.  The colors are off in all my photos and no amount of editing seems to help πŸ˜•.  The orange is not as bright.

I started the Long Dog Samplers Pandemic sampler, well, during the pandemic.  My eyesight started deteriorating and I quit struggling with it in 2021.  In Oct 2024 and May 2025, I had cataract surgery along with a partial corneal transplant in the right and left eye respectively due to having Fuch’s dystrophy.  It is truly amazing how well I can see now, I’m so very thankful.  Because the sampler had been put away for so long it, I’d forgotten about it 😟.  I came across the Pandemic BAP (Big A$$ Project) and have been working away on it.

When I picked it up again, I had three of the 20 pages stitched.  Since July, I’ve stitched page 4 and part of page 5.  I estimate it will be December 2027 before I’m done 😳😳

Bring it on!

More Blocks, More Fabrics & More Inspiration

I am continuing to work on the jelly roll project.

I’ve also added some new fabrics that were on sale at Quilted Twins, 10 yards πŸ™€.  My love of the dimples fabric comes from my friend who has just about every color way.

I was pursuing pictures of old quilts and came across the one below.  It sure would lend itself to thrifted shirt stripes!  It’s hard to tell from the image but it’s quilted with Baptist fans.  Funny, the colors are similar to the jelly roll quilt in progress above.

Waiting in the Wings

My fabric usage is going to be lower than my acquisitions on my next summary unless I finish something 😬.  I took a look at the quilts I have waiting in the wings.  Sophie, my Nolting longarm, is already loaded with a quilt I made from thrifted shirts in a pattern from Sujata Shaw’s Cultural Fusion book.

I learned from Judy Laquidara, when she was still quilting, that I’m more likely to quilt if I immediately load a quilt after finishing the current one.  She’s right, but a more powerful motivation is a deadline or stash report πŸ˜†.

Quilts to Quilt
Here are the other four quilts waiting to be quilted.  I am ashamed to admit the Bonnie Hunter’s Roll, Roll, Cotton Boll (RRCB) top was finished years ago, maybe 15 years as this was Bonnie’s 2010 mystery quilt.  Yikes!!

Only one of these quilts has a home, well, two of them because I’m keeping RRCB!  That means the other three are up for grabs which is why they are waiting in the wings.

Okay, maybe it’s time to get quilting!

Quadrangle Quilt Progress

The jelly roll pattern I’m working on is Quadrangle by Moda and I’ve finished a few more blocks.

This despite sewing………

…..an extra 4 patch in this one, oops!  Guess I shouldn’t stack the three pieces too closely aligned.

I snagged a cute little vintage jar today to hold the pull tabs from soda cans I collect for a young friend.  It joined a couple other vintage pieces, one for trimmings and one for pins, on my cutting table.

QOV Quilt

I worked with my friend Jan, The Colorful Fabriholic, on a QOV quilt made from the fabric pack I bought from the Quilted Twins QOV drive.  Jan took the fabrics I received and did her EQ magic, forwarding several options.  I happened to picked the one she liked best….because it was the best πŸ˜„ (thanks Jan).  She sent me the info with the warning to make a test block first.  I did and it was perfect.

I got the quilt finished and mailed in July, well ahead of the deadline because we were leaving on vacation.  I was so glad to see our quilt being handed off as, when we returned home and I checked the tracking, it wasn’t shown as delivered.  It is the one on top of the pile in the picture below.

I think the quilt turned out nicely given the fabrics in the package.

The Quilted Twins post about handing off the 93 QOV quilts the received is here.

A Fun Day

It was a fun day, using a jelly roll on National Jelly Roll day.  I am not a fast sewer so I only finished two blocks…………

……but I sewed all my strips and just need to cross cut them.

I also got the small table runner pinned for quilting.

Even more fun was getting packages!  I received my order of Scanfil thread, taking advantage of the buy 12 spools and get two free from the Flourishing Palms blog.

I’ll try the Scanfil thread, which I’d not heard of before, and see what I think.

I received a box from Missouri Star Quilting too 😁😁 with 10 yards of fabrics. The light batik will be the backing for my jelly roll quilt as I don’t have very many batiks in my stash and I really wanted to use a batik on the back.  A sound justification, no? πŸ˜‰

Two Projects & Prep for National Jelly Roll Day

I’ve got two projects going.  The first, a small table runner, is almost together.

The second, Starfire…….…

Starfire Block

……involves a bit of trimming…….

…….to get rid of those dog ears!

For National Jelly Roll Day, I’ve got my fabrics picked out but I’d like to get my background fabric prepped by cutting at least the strips required.

A Finished Quilt

have a finished quilt that my dear friend, Darlene, had partly finished when she passed away.  My friend, Patty The Quilt Lady, finished it for me.  It means more than I can express……Patty’s post about it is here.

Here it is on the bed.

I am so thankful to have this quilt to remember Darlene.

I’m sewing on the Starfire quilt which has you making HST in a way I’ve not done before although I did know about it.  You start with two squares RST, sew around all four edges and then cut on the diagonal twice resulting in four HST’s.  I’ve never made them this way because the HST’s end up with biased edges but since this was a precut kit I won in Kelly’s giveaway, I’m using this method.

So far so good πŸ‘πŸ»  I’m also working on a table runner from a kit my mom had in her sewing room.  It has lots of HST’s which are being made using the two at a time method.  It’s lovely being home and in my quilt studio again.

Fabric In/Out

I want to track my fabric usage and acquisitions, loosely.  While on vacation in August, I will admit to some purchases 😬😬, but I also had some finishes😁😁.

Seven yards of neutrals.

A couple 2 yd pieces and a couple jelly rolls.

That’s 16 1/2 yards purchased plus 6 yards for winning the quilt kit mentioned in my last post.

Fund raising quilt finished!

And 31 yards out for the two raffle quilts also mentioned in my last post, the fundraising quilt above and a flannel quilt I neglected to snag a photo of that was left at our cabin.

Yards In - 22.5 yds

Yards Out - 31 yds

Net since August 2025 - 8.5 yds out…… loosely πŸ˜€

Fund Raising Quilts

The tiny rural community in California, where we have a cabin two doors down from my dad, has two picnics each year to raise funds for the fire auxiliary and the local volunteer water service.  This year they were both on Labor Day weekend and I made lap quilts for each to raffle.  The winners seemed pleased.

Winner!

We returned home yesterday after more than a month traveling.  Kelly at My Quilt Infactuation generously had a give away of her Starfire pattern and precut pieces to make a lap quilt.  I was the winner and the box arrived when we got home.  I love the fabrics and can’t wait to get started on it now that everything is unpacked.  Thank you, Kelly!

Quilting Blog, Take 2

Wow, the post below was a draft from a year ago!  I’ll have to do a year in review to catch up 😜.

I blogged many years ago and then, as things go, I petered out.  I’ve recently retired and I am excited to have time and desire to resume blogging.  Blogger is new to me so I’ll work on fancy-ing up my space and hey, look, colored font!

We had a granddaughter born in June.  The flower prints in the bear paw blocks seem appropriate as her name is Meadow.

I’m currently working on a free-form quilt from Sujata Shah’s 2014 Cultural Fusion Quilts book.  This is only the second quilt I’ve made from this book but there are at least three more on my someday list.

Looking forward to figuring out Blogger and sharing my quilts.

Cheers!
