Catch Up Post Thanksgiving

We hosted family for Thanksgiving with everyone bringing food so it was pretty stress free. DH cooked the turkey on the Big Green Egg and it was fabulous…..moist & tender. Yum! So many things to be thankful for this year.

I have finished the 12 cheddar solids blocks and can sew them together now. Then it’s just waiting for The Fat Quarter shop to get back to me on the correct Bella colors.

I received a request for jar covers to keep dust and fruit flies out of the kombucha. I’m waiting on delivery of the elastic but these are ready to go otherwise.

At Thanksgiving it was noticed I made our potholders (um, yeah, lol) and I thought I’d use some crumb blocks to make some that family members can take at Christmas if they want to. I used corduroy to back the last ones I made and really like it so that’s what I’m using on these. Below it’s the checked pieces in back along with binding leftovers in front.

For the group below I’m using grey corduroy.

I layer the backing, batting, insulbright, batting and the top. Then I sew the binding on the front side. I hand sew the binding down and put a simple star stitch in the center through all the layers, no other quilting. So far, we like this model the best.

Currently, we have a steady snow coming down with probably 4-6 inches accumulated so far. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

‘Tis the season! Cherie

  1. The potholders are a great idea. I have a great supply of corduroy. Where do you find your insulbright? I've gotten it in the past at Joann's, but...

  2. Those potholders are excellent and with all those layers I'll bet no one gets burnt fingers. Hooray for the 12 cheddar blocks - hope FQS responds soon.

  3. I never thought of putting corduroy on the back of potholders but that would give it a little extra cushion from the heat. I have lots of corduroy scraps.

  4. I agree with Wanda corduroy on the back of pot holders sounds like a great idea. I put a turkey in the smoker once years ago and it turned out great but we no longer have a smoker and I'm not much for cooking outside. Sounds good to have everyone bring a dish.

  5. Glad you had a good Thanksgiving with family! I like your idea of corduroy on the back of potholders. I'm sure your family will appreciate them. Are those TP tubes holding your leftover binding? Brilliant!!!

  6. The cheddar blocks are fabulous! I have never tried kombucha. I don't care for fermented foods so I probably wouldn't like it. I could send you some elastic if you needed 1/4". I have lots left over from when I was making masks during covid - I have more than I would ever use! Let me know.

That is a great way to use up some of your crumb blocks. Yours will be prettier than the ones I made. I just threw some ironing board fabric on the back of mine and did a down and dirty binding job. They were just for me and I needed some quick. Function over form is what I was going for! LOL!!

  7. Your block is beautiful, and your idea with the potholders is fantastic... I think I'll remember it for next year. I love that everyone gets to choose their favorite item... which of course requires a good selection.
I made paper stars for everyone to choose from and sewed sleep masks with lavender from the garden... also for everyone to choose from - my family is coming for the weekend tomorrow :-)))
    Great! So nice.
    Happy Advent from Viola
